The Orphan Crushing Machine
It’s Time to Address The Root Cause of Societal Problems
I had never heard of the Orphan-Crushing Machine until recently and it’s just cringey enough to make us consider the benefits of the massive dismantling of government currently underway.
In short, the Orphan Crushing Machine refers to a heartwarming news story that uplifts someone for remedying the immediate consequences of a sociopolitical issue while ignoring the root cause of the issue.
On September 24, 2020, Twitter user @pookleblinky tweeted,
“Every heartwarming human interest story in america is like "he raised $20,000 to keep 200 orphans from being crushed in the orphan- crushing machine" and then never asks why an orphan-crushing machine exists or why you'd need to pay to prevent it from being used.”
Despite the reality that the USA was founded upon some of the noblest principles in Christendom, hypocrisy was planted right alongside the values of this nation and its religious roots. A critical mass of us have soured on America’s bitter fruit and it is currently rotting out the basket of international goodwill. We don’t even have to wait to get thrown out for our putrid policies. Oligarchs and Orange Voldemort Under Muskrat (OVUM for short) are ejecting us from every meaningful international convening of world leaders that has the wellbeing of humanity and our planet as a mission.
I’ve known for too much of my life that our government structures were dysfunctional and problematic—causing and perpetuating more and more of these orphan crushing machines. I’ve also known for a reasonable amount of time that something new would have to replace the system that currently exists.
The question that I could never solve for was how to get from point A to point B when all anyone ever seems to be interested is the most infinitesimal incremental change. Everyone alive today would be dead by the time we made the smallest of progress under the status quo.
For better or worse, I am your friendly neighborhood Hope Dealer. I’ve been gifted with infinite optimism, so I see silver linings everywhere I look. PollyAnna-ish, sure—but in the midst of a regime designed to overwhelm, depress and disempower, my way of thinking is a superpower.
That said, OVUM is going to dismantle as much as the rigged courts will allow, and the only thing left for us to do will be to rebuild something better in its wake. As painful as it is to watch the teardown, I believe it’s the only way that we were going to get massive systemic overhaul.
So consider, if you will for a moment, that this might be precisely the gift we need to get the hard reset that is required to build a more equitable world. Sadly, we cannot just sit by and watch it unfold. We must, from our vantage point, do what we can to push back until such time as intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate people are able to take the reins, redesign it, and actually represent the people’s needs.
We need more Jasmine Crocketts, AOCs, Bernie Sanders, and frankly, a new breed of leader whose ideals burst beyond the bounds of the two party system and the inefficiency that has held our government charade in place. Never have I been more disillusioned with political shenanigans. We need something better. What we are currently witnessing makes it clear that both parties are two sides of the same coin, servants of the same master. The outliers I mentioned above are extraordinarily brave people and we need more of those, but I’m not convinced that the container of the political system we have in place is anywhere near sufficient.
To the fearless among us with brilliant ideas for how to discard the status quo that keeps the 99% down, now is the time. We need to envision a new era where we excavate the rotting root causes and reassemble a nation that genuinely lives into the values of justice and human equity. We were always meant to be stewards of the land and caretakers for and within community.
Scarcity was always the lie and it’s time to usher in a new day. Don’t be distracted by the death knells of a collapsing power structure. Our time has come and the actions of the oligarchs are just fearful power grabs. They are not displays of strength. Empower yourself within your lane and move intentionally and strategically within your sphere of influence. Take inspired action towards creating the world the way you believe it should be. Do that in community and redouble your power.
Remember, no action is too small. It is inaction at scale that will undo us. And that is precisely why the powers that be want you depressed, dejected, distracted, exhausted, drugged up, and disillusioned. In that state you become powerless and easy to manipulate. Turn off the screens, meditate, listen to healing frequencies, exercise, get out in nature, connect with actual humans off social media, and remember your power. That’s the magic formula for not being brainwashed by OVUM and the oligarchs. Bonus points if you can somehow access to healthy, clean food and water, because many of us cannot. The chemicals in our processed food are not helping the fight for freedom—and they know it. Nothing we are experiencing is an accident. Everything about how our minds and bodies feel and where we are as a society is all by design and we need to wake up.
One thing I can confirm is that after leading thousands of people around the world through time-traveling, world-building, exercises—is that the thoughtful and compassionate among us can all see the same thing. We are all envisioning a world of abundance in which everyone has enough and is enough. From continent to continent, human beings who have never met each other can all envision a thriving ecosystem. We all see a healthy, verdant, fertile planet with plants and animals that are well cared for and people who lack for nothing.
We all see a world where healthcare is accessible to everyone, and not only are those who choose to offer labor well compensated for their efforts, those who cannot labor or are beyond their laboring years, are taken care of by a generous system in which no one is left behind. Most people in the new world contribute their talents joyfully within supportive environments that nurture their wellbeing.
None of this is out of reach. It is not impossible. It is not even hard. Countries with far fewer resources than the United States have been doing it for decades. It just requires the collective input, intellect, and effort of a unified people who will not stand for anything less than what we deserve.
OVUM’s big mistake that will ultimately work in favor of the 99% is that they are attacking our already meager Social Safety Net. In an attempt to further harm and deny Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, OVUM is dismantling social supports whose beneficiaries are 80% white. The oligarchy’s disdain for women, gender minorities, and the poor will cost them everything because when we are all discarded together, we become an unstoppable multitude united—if we get our act together and stop bickering.
It’s time to recognize who the real enemy is and unify our causes. America’s original sins of racism and greed are the only things holding us all back from abundance and well-being. We cannot allow the oligarchs to steal our birthright any longer.
Thank you to the countless among you who are already working towards these ends. The more we connect in community, connect the dots, and tie together the threads of our efforts, the more quickly we will arrive at a time where we are easily empowered to take care of each other and by taking care of each other. We must do this on a small, local scale first and eventually link hands around the world. But it is happening, we are doing it, and we will win. Just hold up your corner of the sky for now, my friends.
In the meantime, stay strong. Keep building something creative in the world that represents the joy of your heart, and take care of yourselves and the ones you love.
All hope is not lost. Now is precisely the time to double down on your aspirations, gifts, skills, and abilities. Make your mark. Participate in mutual aid. Contribute something meaningful to the collective. Everything matters right now. Every form of art is protest. Joyful action is protest. For those who need to be protected, rest is protest.
We need every thoughtful person with a shred of courage to find their front line. Download the four protest apps folks have recommended and call your representatives, sign petitions, vote with your dollars. And if you’re up for it, attend protests and hoot and holler…peacefully if possible.
If we do not speak up and act up now, collective action will become harder as OVUM attempt to outlaw and curtail more of our civil rights. There’s no time to lose and our freedom to gain. Use any energy you can spare to join the cause so that you never ever regret not having taken action while you still could. The time is definitely now.
